Family Day explores China | China Antiques

?
The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts? monthly Family Day celebration spotlights China for the fifth time from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Guests can create their own shadow puppets, good-luck dragons and goldfish kites and share a special Chinese New Year?s wish.

?The community has a real connection with Chinese culture,? SAMFA Curator of Education Megan DiRienzo said. ? 600 to 800 people consistently come visit? for the event.

This Family Day, sponsored by the Association of Asian American Women, features a Tai Chi demonstration by Tai Chi Concho, calligraphy lessons and basic Chinese language lessons by students from Goodfellow Air Force Base.

?I love how curious people are,? DiRienzo said. ?They want to hear the language, they want to learn about calligraphy; it?s great to see a genuine interest in Chinese culture.?

Representatives from the Tom Green County Library will also be in attendance to speak about how censorship issues in China tie in to this year?s Big Read novel, ?Fahrenheit 451.?
