Toledo holds off Air Force 42-41 in Military Bowl

Washington ? Even the youngest head coach in the country knows not to expect the conventional from Air Force. After all, the Falcons had already scored three fourth-down touchdowns, including the one that had just tied the Military Bowl with 52 seconds to play.

So 32-year-old Matt Campbell, with Toledo leading for the first time, wasn?t surprised when Air Force lined up to kick the extra point and then ran a fake, going for two to win the game instead of sending it to overtime.

The Rockets were ready.

Holder David Baska got bottled up trying to run the option. The ball squirted toward kicker Parker Herrington, who chased it until it went out of bounds in the end zone, and Toledo started celebrating its 42-41 victory Wednesday night at RFK Stadium.

"We talked about it, first and foremost, because they fake some extra points and fake some field goals," said Campbell, the Toledo offensive coordinator who was promoted this month to the head job after Tim Beckman left for Illinois. "Ironically, we were in the same situation last year in our bowl game. I give credit to our staff. We got ourselves into a defensive call. We were not in a ?block? look."

Toledo succeeded in taking a one-point lead with a 2-point conversion near the end of last year?s Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, but the Rockets lost the game to Florida International on a field goal on the game?s final play.

This time, the wild ending to a wild game went their way in the school?s first bowl win since 2005.

Bernard Reedy?s third touchdown of the game ? a 37-yard catch, spin and run on a pass from Terrance Owens ? gave Toledo a 42-35 lead with 5:01 remaining and put the Rockets (9-4) over the 40-point mark for a sixth straight game.

Story continues below

"We have 1,000 playmakers on our team," said Reedy, who had a career-high 126 yards receiving on four catches and was named the game?s MVP. "You never know who?s going to step up. It?s fun to watch everybody catch and run with it."

The game matched two of the top 25 scoring teams in the country, and they wasted little time living up to their reputations. It was Mid-American Conference member Toledo?s spread offense against Mountain West Air Force?s triple option, and the idea of a huddle seemed a quaint, antiquated concept.

Back and forth they went. A kickoff return for 87 yards. A pitch around the left end for 60. Touchdown passes for 49 and 37 yards. A pair of botched onside kicks.

And that was just the first half.

Toledo?s Adonis Thomas finished with 108 yards on 22 carries. Paul Hornung Award finalist Eric Page caught 13 passes for 59 yards, but his biggest play was an 87-yard kickoff return in the first half.

Owens, getting most of the work at quarterback, completed 19 of 24 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Owens got the nod over Austin Dantin, who started the first 10 games of the season before sitting out the last two with a concussion.

Tim Jefferson, the first quarterback in service academy history to lead his team to four consecutive bowl games, completed 13 of 22 passes for 159 yards with two touchdowns and one interception for Air Force (7-6). Jonathan Warzeka had a career-best 60-yard run to set up one touchdown, and his 37-yard reception on fourth-and-3 tied the game 28-all heading into halftime.

There was even room for a defensive score: Toledo safety Jermaine Robinson?s 37-yard interception runback after he corralled a tipped pass deep in the secondary.

A panel reviewing the auditing of Olympus Corp after its $1.7 billion accounting scandal said it had so far not found any problems with the work of Ernst & Young's Japanese arm and questioned the accuracy of a separate investigation critical of auditors.</p> <p> But the panel, set up by Ernst & Young ShinNihon LLC earlier this month, acknowledged that its powers of investigation were limited. The hurdles include an inability to question prior auditor, KMPG AZSA LLC, which does not want to participate in the probe.</p> <p> "We face certain limitations," Nobuo Gohara, a lawyer and leading member of the panel, told a briefing to give an update on an investigation it is aiming to complete by February. "We are not at the stage where everything is clear."</p> <p> Ernst & Young formed the panel to respond to criticism of auditors in a separate investigation by an Olympus-appointed panel this month that outlined how a handful of Olympus executives orchestrated the decades-long accounting scam.</p> <p> The Olympus-appointed panel highlighted two issues in the auditing process. It questioned whether the handoff from KPMG to Ernst & Young in 2009 was thorough and whether it was appropriate for Olympus to book as goodwill preferred shares used to pay a massive M&A advisory fee now known to be central to the scandal.</p> <p> The Ernst & Young-appointed panel said the handover was handled in accordance with accounting regulations that stipulate what questions must be asked and answered about why the switch is taking place. But it has not determined if Ernst & Young did enough to follow up on red flags.</p> <p> "We have found no problems with the handover in terms of the guidelines," said Toshifumi Takada, an auditing professor at Tohoku University and panel member. "But we need to make further checks to see if more should have been done."</p> <p> Gohara raised questions about the thoroughness and accuracy of the Olympus-appointed panel's report. Among other things he said Ernst & Young was questioned only twice for two-hour sessions each and he could not verify that a meeting between the two auditors detailed in the report took place.</p> <p> "I have doubts about the accuracy of certain parts of the report," said Gohara, who grabbed headlines earlier this year when he led an investigation into a scandal at Kyushu Electric and publicly challenged the utility for revising his report.</p> <p> Ernst & Young and KPMG both face possible sanctions by the country's accounting industry body and financial regulator, which have launched probes into the matter.</p> <p> In a statement, KPMG AZSA said it handled the handover with Ernst & Young in accordance with regulations and that it was cooperating with an investigation by the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants announced by the industry body last month.</p> <p> A severe penalty would deal a heavy blow to the industry, which is still reeling from a series of scandals that led to a two-month suspension of ChuoAoyama Pricewaterhouse Coopers in 2006 and the disbanding of its successor firm in 2007.</p> <p> (Reporting by Nathan Layne; Officials in Colombia's second-largest city on Monday inaugurated a giant, outdoor escalator for residents of one of its poorest neighborhoods.</p> <p>For generations, the 12,000 residents of Medellin's tough Comuna 13, which clings to the side of a steep hillside, have had to climb hundreds of large steps authorities say is the same as going up a 28-story building.</p> <p>Now they can ride an escalator Medellin's mayor says is the first massive, outdoor public escalator for use by residents of a poor area.</p> <p>"It turned out very well," said Mayor Alonso Salazar, adding that he has not heard of any such project elsewhere in this world.</p> <p>Salazar said officials from Rio de Janeiro plan to visit Medellin to see if such an escalator would work in that city's favelas, which also cling precariously to hillsides.</p> <p>Comuna 13 residents came out to celebrate and study the $6.7 million escalator which officials say will shorten the 35-minute hike on foot up the hillside to six minutes. Use of the escalator is free.</p> <p>"This is a dream come true," homemaker Olga Holguin told RCN television.</p> <p>Cesar Hernandez, head of projects for Medellin, said the electric stairway is divided into six sections and has a length of 384 meters (1,260 feet). An escalator goes up and a second goes down. Authorities plan to build a covering for inclement whether.</p> <p>Salazar described Comuna 13 as the city's district that has "suffered the greatest urban violence... but lately this has been receding and we hope this social package will help it move forward."</p><p>Source: <a href="http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/rss/world/*http%3A//news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20111227/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_colombia_giant_escalator">http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/rss/world/*http%3A//news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20111227/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_colombia_giant_escalator</a></p><p><a href="http://www.zhelezo.biz/forum/member.php?u=381055">neil degrasse tyson</a> <a href="http://www.zhelezo.biz/forum/member.php?u=381060">neil degrasse tyson</a> <a href="http://www.zhelezo.biz/forum/member.php?u=391419">bears lions</a> <a href="http://www.zhelezo.biz/forum/member.php?u=392845">bears lions</a> <a href="http://www.zhelezo.biz/forum/member.php?u=392932">neville</a> <a href="http://www.zintnieks.lv/forums/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=414282">neville</a> <a href="http://www.zintnieks.lv/forums/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=420442">heavy d</a> </p> <div style='clear: both;'></div> </div> <div class='post-footer'> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'> <span class='post-author vcard'> Posted by <span class='fn' itemprop='author' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/Person'> <meta content='https://www.blogger.com/profile/17827237278165044839' itemprop='url'/> <a class='g-profile' href='https://www.blogger.com/profile/17827237278165044839' rel='author' title='author profile'> <span itemprop='name'>scurrykemberly99</span> </a> </span> </span> <span class='post-timestamp'> at <meta content='http://featherless-sevenfold.blogspot.com/2011/12/colombian-city-gets-giant-outdoor.html' itemprop='url'/> <a class='timestamp-link' href='http://featherless-sevenfold.blogspot.com/2011/12/colombian-city-gets-giant-outdoor.html' rel='bookmark' title='permanent link'><abbr class='published' itemprop='datePublished' title='2011-12-28T12:07:00-08:00'>12:07 PM</abbr></a> </span> <span class='post-comment-link'> <a class='comment-link' href='http://featherless-sevenfold.blogspot.com/2011/12/colombian-city-gets-giant-outdoor.html#comment-form' onclick=''> No comments: </a> </span> <span class='post-icons'> <span class='item-control blog-admin pid-1199307823'> <a href='https://www.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=7765187433307453482&postID=977723707767126828&from=pencil' title='Edit Post'> <img alt='' class='icon-action' height='18' src='https://resources.blogblog.com/img/icon18_edit_allbkg.gif' width='18'/> </a> </span> </span> <div class='post-share-buttons goog-inline-block'> <a class='goog-inline-block share-button sb-email' href='https://www.blogger.com/share-post.g?blogID=7765187433307453482&postID=977723707767126828&target=email' target='_blank' title='Email This'><span class='share-button-link-text'>Email This</span></a><a class='goog-inline-block share-button sb-blog' href='https://www.blogger.com/share-post.g?blogID=7765187433307453482&postID=977723707767126828&target=blog' onclick='window.open(this.href, "_blank", "height=270,width=475"); So what?s in store for 2012? Most economists see slow growth, with an average forecast of 2 per cent for the year. But opinions are split on how it will play out. </p><span class="hdivider"/> <header><h4 class="regseriflbl large">More related to this story</h4></header><span class="hdivider revhdivider"/> <p> <strong>THE BEAR: Beata Caranci, deputy chief economist (U.S. and international), Toronto-Dominion Bank</strong> </p> <p> <strong>1. You see the economy growing about 1.7 per cent this year. What will drive this growth ? or hold it back?</strong> </p> <p> We expect further deterioration in financial conditions in early 2012 alongside a deep recession taking root in Europe. ? Because much of Canada?s performance is dependent on global events, the knock-on effects will scar growth by weighing down consumer and business confidence, and by resulting in softer exports and commodity prices. </p> <p> <strong>2. Where do you see the currency?</strong> </p> <p> If European turmoil intensifies, investors will flee to the safety of the U.S. dollar, [to the detriment of] the Canadian dollar, which would likely slip to roughly 90 cents (U.S.) in the first half of the year. </p> <p> <strong>3. Canada?s jobless rate is 7.4 per cent. How will the labour market fare in 2012?</strong> </p> <p> Canadians probably have to brace for an unemployment rate that is likely to go up in 2012 ? in the 7.5 to 7.7-per-cent range. </p> <p> <strong>4. The Bank of Canada held the line on interest rates in 2011. What will happen this year?</strong> </p> <p> 2012 will be marked by more of the same when it comes to the Bank?s overnight interest rate. The uncertainty and financial market turbulence created by Europe coupled with a slowdown in the broader global economy is not an environment that will be conducive to higher rates in Canada. And, against this backdrop, inflationary pressures should ease in the coming year, facilitating the decision to leave rates unchanged at ultra-low levels. </p> <p> <strong>5. Inflation got a little hotter this year. What?s your outlook in 2012?</strong> </p> <p> Much of the momentum in inflation this year can be attributed to the runup in energy and food prices, which likely also seeped into the prices of other goods and services. But, commodity prices have eased in recent months ? given the prospect for weaker economic growth and a rise in the unemployment rate, we think inflation will hold below 2 per cent next year. </p> <p> <strong>6. Consumers remain heavily indebted. What?s in store for them?</strong> </p> <p> The prognosis is not good for 2012. ? Soft job creation will equal stagnant wages, and asset growth will be constrained by ongoing equity market volatility, low interest rates and cooling home prices. ? debt levels relative to incomes will hit new highs in 2012. As debt burdens keep rising, [consumer spending] will show pretty shallow growth of 1.6 per cent. </p> <p> <strong>7. In the global economy, where will be the strongest and weakest pockets of growth?</strong> </p> <p> Looking at advanced economies, without question, the weakest pocket will be the euro zone, which we think will contract by roughly 1.2 per cent. Both [the U.S. and Canada] are expected to post real GDP growth just shy of 2 per cent. </p> <p> Among the emerging market economies, all seem to be gearing down, but some more so than others. We think the Asian NICs [newly industrialized countries], Brazil and perhaps even India will slow down to a lesser extent than China. </p> <p> <strong>8. What are the greatest risks next year to the Canadian and global economy?</strong> </p> <p> The greatest risk to Canada and the global economy are one and the same ? a misstep by European policy leaders that results in a global financial crisis. </p> <p> 9. What are you planning on reading over the holidays? </p> <p> I?m doing a right-brain, left-brain thing. I?m reading Boomerang and The Girl Who Played with Fire ? His legacy stands in sharp contrast to that of Kim Jong-il, who ruthlessly denied his people a voice.</p> <p>The mingled images of Vaclav Havel and Kim Jong-il lying in state this week are a sobering finale to a year of global upheaval.</p> Skip to next paragraph <p>2011 brought an Arab Spring followed by a Pacific earthquake and tsunami that knocked the earth 9 millimeters off its axis ? and it ended with the passing on the same day of arguably the best and the worst, the lightest and the darkest, of global public figures.</p><p>It?s a stranger-than-fiction contrast that would likely cause the dramatist in Havel to smile. He spent his life fighting for freedom, expression, growth toward more light, and bringing the East and West European families together. Mr. Kim spent his?days?ruthlessly denying those impulses, and reinforcing a dark, prison-state built on brainwashing and the personal deification of the Kim family dynasty.</p><p>Today in Prague, Bill and Hillary Clinton are joining British Prime Minister David Cameron, France's President Nicolas Sarkozy, former Polish Solidarity leader Lech Walesa, and a galaxy of artists and others, at Havel?s funeral. The guest list at Kim?s service has not been forthcoming. But the litmus test can be imagined.</p><p>I can remember interviewing Havel at his colorful office in the Prague castle, days before he came to Harvard University to deliver the 1996 commencement address. He spoke of the importance of civil society, and how tendencies in the modern world after the cold war still threatened the human spirit. At Harvard, then-Vice President Al Gore was in the audience (his daughter was graduating). At the time, the West was watching the Bosnian carnage from the sidelines. Havel pleaded openly with the US to do something, which it eventually did.</p><p>Later, while reporting in Beijing, I was denied access to Kim?s North Korea, but visited border areas where refugees gathered. We heard of labor camps the size of US cities, of starvation, fear, the beating and killing of prisoners, and of a system in the north allowing only those proved to have pure Korean blood to live in Pyongyang. The picture was chilling. But with Kim playing the nuclear card, little attention was paid to the North Korean people.</p><p>Source: <a href="http://rss.csmonitor.com/~r/feeds/csm/~3/uaPYy9u73FE/Vaclav-Havel-crisis-of-human-spirit-demands-spiritual-reawakening">http://rss.csmonitor.com/~r/feeds/csm/~3/uaPYy9u73FE/Vaclav-Havel-crisis-of-human-spirit-demands-spiritual-reawakening</a></p><p><a href="http://www.samfund.dk/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=168037">bears lions</a> <a href="http://www.samuelecini.it/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=423355">neville</a> <a href="http://www.samuelecini.it/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=426659">neville</a> <a href="http://www.samuelecini.it/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=431818">heavy d</a> <a href="http://www.samuelecini.it/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=444987">heavy d</a> <a href="http://www.samuelecini.it/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=444988">taser gun</a> <a href="http://www.samuelecini.it/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=446626">patriots vs jets</a> </p> <div style='clear: both;'></div> </div> <div class='post-footer'> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'> <span class='post-author vcard'> Posted by <span class='fn' itemprop='author' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/Person'> <meta content='https://www.blogger.com/profile/17827237278165044839' itemprop='url'/> <a class='g-profile' href='https://www.blogger.com/profile/17827237278165044839' rel='author' title='author profile'> <span itemprop='name'>scurrykemberly99</span> </a> </span> </span> <span class='post-timestamp'> at <meta content='http://featherless-sevenfold.blogspot.com/2011/12/vaclav-havel-crisis-of-spirit-demands.html' itemprop='url'/> <a class='timestamp-link' href='http://featherless-sevenfold.blogspot.com/2011/12/vaclav-havel-crisis-of-spirit-demands.html' rel='bookmark' title='permanent link'><abbr class='published' itemprop='datePublished' title='2011-12-26T08:12:00-08:00'>8:12 AM</abbr></a> </span> <span class='post-comment-link'> <a class='comment-link' href='http://featherless-sevenfold.blogspot.com/2011/12/vaclav-havel-crisis-of-spirit-demands.html#comment-form' onclick=''> No comments: </a> </span> <span class='post-icons'> <span class='item-control blog-admin pid-1199307823'> <a href='https://www.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=7765187433307453482&postID=431437839245104950&from=pencil' title='Edit Post'> <img alt='' class='icon-action' height='18' src='https://resources.blogblog.com/img/icon18_edit_allbkg.gif' width='18'/> </a> </span> </span> <div class='post-share-buttons goog-inline-block'> <a class='goog-inline-block share-button sb-email' href='https://www.blogger.com/share-post.g?blogID=7765187433307453482&postID=431437839245104950&target=email' target='_blank' title='Email This'><span class='share-button-link-text'>Email This</span></a><a class='goog-inline-block share-button sb-blog' href='https://www.blogger.com/share-post.g?blogID=7765187433307453482&postID=431437839245104950&target=blog' onclick='window.open(this.href, "_blank", "height=270,width=475"); But millions of families will still have their heat cut-off.</p> <p>The Wall Street Journal reported Dec. 6 that the Pentagon spends a shocking $400 per gallon on fuel in Afghanistan. The exorbitant price tag is a result of the expensive logistics involved in parachuting fuel from military cargo planes to remote areas of Afghanistan.</p> <p>The Pentagon has had no trouble at all getting government assistance for its fuel needs. But hard-working families in need of fuel to stay warm during the harsh winter season have not been so lucky.</p> <p>In November, President Obama authorized a 47 percent cut for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program?s budget. The average cost of heating oil for a home is expected to hit $2,535 this winter season, a whopping 45 percent jump from $1,752 two years ago. (CNN Money, Dec. 4)</p> <p>At a time when the Census Bureau reports half the U.S. population is officially poor or low-income, many will go without heat this winter. For many, especially the elderly, access to heat can be a matter of life or death.</p> <p>According to a case study by the University of Maryland?s School of Public Policy, a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle gets as little as three miles per gallon. The cost of fuel for a short 20-mile trip by one of these widely used U.S. military vehicles is more than enough to keep an entire family warm for the whole winter season.</p> <p>The Wall Street Journal reports that the Pentagon is ?stuck with the expense for the foreseeable future.?</p> <p>Really?</p> <p>It does not take a military analyst to realize the cost of fuel in Afghanistan would drop to zero by withdrawing all troops from Afghanistan now. That would be the democratic thing to do, as the majority of people in the United States, including inside the U.S. military, are opposed to the war in Afghanistan and want it to end. Ending the unpopular, deadly occupation could put an immediate end to the unpopular, deadly cuts to families? heat subsidies.</p> <p>In fact, by putting an end to all U.S. wars and occupations, billions of dollars would become instantly available for not only heat but a vast array of social needs?health care, housing, education and job creation.</p> <p>When the generals and politicians repeat their ?support the troops? mantra when demanding a blank check for the military budget, they are not talking about anything that actually benefits us and our families, but the funneling of billions of our tax dollars into the military-industrial complex. Those funds are sucked out of the communities we come from, the social programs that help our families and neighbors, and the notoriously substandard services for veterans, such as job programs and mental health treatment.</p> <p>There are very real reasons for the sharp cuts in social spending in the United States. It?s a stratospheric military budget that serves only the needs of the oil giants, the defense contractors, and the Wall Street banks. It?s the relentless pursuit of ever greater corporate profits. It is the unwillingness of the 1% to pay for the economic crisis they created or end the hopeless, unpopular war they started.</p> <p>Lack of money does not make the list.</p> <p>We have entered a period of a renewed people?s movement consisting of working families, veterans, active-duty troops, students and everyone affected by this system in service of the 1%. Your parents were right: Hard experiences may indeed make you tough. Psychological scientists have found that, while going through many experiences like assault, hurricanes, and bereavement can be psychologically damaging, small amounts of trauma may help people develop resilience.

"Of course, everybody's heard the aphorism, 'Whatever does not kill you makes you stronger,'" says Mark D. Seery of the University at Buffalo. His paper on adversity and resilience appears in the December issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. But in psychology, he says, a lot of ideas that seem like common sense aren't supported by scientific evidence.

Indeed, a lot of solid psychology research shows that having miserable life experiences is bad for you. Serious events, like the death of a child or parent, a natural disaster, being physically attacked, experiencing sexual abuse, or being forcibly separated from your family, can cause psychological problems. In fact, some research has suggested that the best way to go through life is having nothing ever happen to you. But not only is that unrealistic, it's not necessarily healthy, Seery says.

In one study, Seery and his colleagues found that people who experienced many traumatic life events were more distressed in generalbut they also found that people who had experienced no negative life events had similar problems. The people with the best outcomes were those who had experienced some negative events. Another study found that people with chronic back pain were able to get around better if they had experienced some serious adversity, whereas people with either a lot of adversity or none at all were more impaired.

One possibility for this pattern is that people who have been through difficult experiences have had a chance to develop their ability to cope. "The idea is that negative life experiences can toughen people, making them better able to manage subsequent difficulties," Seery says. In addition, people who get through bad events may have tested out their social network, learning how to get help when they need it.

This research isn't telling parents to abuse their kids so they'll grow up to be well-adjusted adults, Seery says. "Negative events have negative effects," he says. "I really look at this as being a silver lining. Just because something bad has happened to someone doesn't mean they're doomed to be damaged from that point on."

China exporters face "very severe" Q1 2012: Commerce Ministry (Reuters)

BEIJING (Reuters) ? China's exporters will face "very severe" conditions in the first quarter of 2012, the Commerce Ministry said on Thursday, with Europe's debt crisis dragging on and dampening demand.

"The overall trade environment next year for China will be complicated, partly due to the economic uncertainties in the European countries, and I should say that the export situation in the first quarter of next year will be very severe," Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang told a news conference.

Growth in Chinese exports and imports slowed in November, fresh evidence of faltering demand abroad and at home that is pushing Beijing towards a more explicit pro-growth policy stance, according to data published on December 10.

Customs data showed exports at their most sluggish in two years -- stripping out the volatile month of February.

2011 Nobel Laureate Ralph Steinman Explains Discovery of Cells Used for Cancer Treatment [Video]

Web Exclusives | Health

Announced as a prize winner just after his death from pancreatic cancer, Steinman conducted research on dendritic cells that formed the foundation of his own personalized therapies

Image: Roberto Parada

In the quest to cure cancer, many researchers have started looking beyond toxic chemicals and harsh radiation and instead are trying to harness the body's immune system.

Ralph Steinman made a landmark discovery about the immune system in the 1970s when he first described dendritic cells with the help of his mentor Zanvil Cohn at Rockefeller University. More than 30 years later, when Steinman was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, these cells served as the basis of his experimental treatments.

He won the 2011 Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology for his early-career discovery but died just three days before the official announcement. In the January 2012 issue (to be released online December 20, 2011), Scientific American chronicles Steinman's early find and how the cells became an integral part of his unconventional battle with pancreatic cancer.

In the following video, filmed when he won the 2007 Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research, Steinman recounts his discovery of biology?and of the amazing cells that likely helped to keep him alive years longer than expected.

?

For more videos of Steinman discussing dendritic cells and their role in the immune system, visit the collection of his interviews on the Lasker Foundation's website.

Maine Dems chide Republican gov for profane remark (AP)

AUGUSTA, Maine ? Maine's Democratic Party leader is chiding Republican Gov. Paul LePage for using a barnyard epithet to describe a meeting with three unemployed workers.

The criticism was triggered by a comment LePage made to a Capitol News Service reporter who asked him for his thoughts about the Saturday meeting. LePage used an expletive, then repeated it slowly.

Democratic Chairman Ben Grant says the comment shows LePage is a "bully" and that he's ignoring Maine's 50,000 unemployed workers.

Democratic State Rep. Andy O'Brien requested the meeting after LePage suggested about a month ago that some people don't work because they can make more money on unemployment.

LePage has become known for his bluntness. While on the campaign trail last fall, he said he'd tell President Barack Obama to "go to hell."
